In short
- An electric heating pad has thin heating wires inside a soft fabric pad and a hand controller for the heat level.
- Good pads have 3 or more heat settings, auto shut-off (usually 90–120 minutes) and a washable cover.
- King size (about 30 × 60 cm) covers the full lower back; contoured neck pads drape over the shoulders.

How to use an electric heating pad
- Check the cord and coverNo damage, cover on.
- Place on the areaLie or sit with the pad on top — not underneath you.
- Start on lowRaise only if comfortable.
- 15–20 minutesThen switch off and rest.
- Unplug and storeRoll loosely; never fold sharply.
Use heat safely
- Start on the lowest setting and use heat for about 15–20 minutes at a time, with breaks.
- Never sleep with an electric pad switched on, and never lie or sit on top of it.
- Keep a cloth or the cover between the heat and your skin; check the skin often.
- Take extra care with diabetes, poor feeling in the skin, children and elderly users — they may not feel a burn.
- Pain that is severe, new, follows an injury or keeps coming back should be checked by a doctor. Heat gives comfort; it is not a medicine.
