With electricity bills so high, it is a fair question. The good news: heating pads use very little power compared with a room heater.
Units per hour
| Product | Typical power | Units per hour |
|---|---|---|
| Electric heating pad | 50 – 100 W | 0.05 – 0.1 |
| Beurer HK 66 neck wrap | 100 W | 0.1 |
| Electric under blanket | about 60 W | about 0.06 |
| Electric heat pouch (charging only) | a few hundred W for 5–15 min | about 0.05 per charge |
| USB belt, wrap or foot pad | 5 – 10 W | under 0.01 |
| For comparison: electric room heater | 1,000 – 2,000 W | 1 – 2 |
1 unit = 1 kWh = 1,000 watts for one hour. Check the label on your product for exact watts.
A simple monthly example
Using a 100 W heating pad for 40 minutes every day = about 0.07 units a day, or roughly 2 units a month. Even at high slab rates, that is a small amount next to a room heater, which can use that much in a single hour.
Warming yourself instead of the whole room is one of the cheapest ways to stay comfortable in winter. Browse heating pads.
