Electric Blanket Guide: Price, Safety and Electricity Use

An electric under blanket lies flat on the mattress, under your bedsheet. Switch it on 20–30 minutes before bed and you get into a warm bed — no more cold sheets in January.

The Beurer TS 17 single under blanket costs about Rs 9,000–10,000. Imported no-brand blankets cost about the same but rarely have a proper safety system or warranty.

Electricity use

Safety rules

• Lay it flat — never folded, creased or tucked in tightly.
• Pre-warm, then switch off before sleeping, unless the manual says a low overnight setting is safe.
• Never use it with a hot water bag, and never on a baby's or child's bed.
• Not for anyone who cannot feel heat or switch it off themselves.
• Check for scorch marks or damaged wires every winter before use.
• Store it rolled loosely, not folded sharply.
