How to use warmth for cramps

  1. Place the heat on the lower tummy or lower back, over clothing.
  2. Start on the lowest heat.
  3. 15–20 minutes, then a break.
  4. Rest, sip warm water and move gently if it feels good.

See a doctor if

  • The pain is so strong that you miss school, college or work.
  • Period pain is new, or has changed or got worse.
  • You have very heavy bleeding, fever, or pain outside your period.
  • You might be pregnant — do not use heat on the belly unless your doctor agrees.
